In partnership with Brut Hotel and Oklahoma Film + Music Office, The Soundup Club proudly presents “The Soundup Roundup” – an intimate and inspiring night of music and storytelling featuring Jacob Tovar, Joleen Brown, and John Ferrell. Join us for a one-of-a-kind songwriter’s round, where the artists share the stories behind their songs and then perform them live. This up-close format gives you a rare peek into the creative process, straight from the voices who lived it.

This marks a continuation of Tulsa’s very first songwriter’s series; an intimate showcase of storytelling and song-sharing in true Nashville tradition, now brought home to The Church Studio.

About the Artists:

Jacob Tovar: Jacob Tovar is an Oklahoma musician bringing country music back to its classic roots. He belts impactful country standards, and writes and performs original songs that draw-in through melodic storytelling. His timeless crooning honkytonk vocals can haunt and enchant all in the same breath, while his riveting guitar playing frames each phrase with a spark of distinction.

Since his debut album in August of 2015 (“Jacob Tovar and the Saddle Tramps”), he’s toured around the Midwest, Europe, and beyond sharing bills with the likes of: John Fullbright, Chris Stapleton, Hanson, Junior Brown, Wayne the Train Hancock, Paul Benjaman, and many more from the Tulsa Sound genre. His latest album, “Another Time, Another Place” was released May 2021.

His music is featured on all three seasons of the FX series “Reservation Dogs” and is available on all major digital streaming platforms, along with the newly released single: “Rock Salt & Nails”, recorded for the 2025 film noir series by Sterlin Harjo: “The Lowdown”. Jacob holds weekly music gigs in Tulsa that are magnets for other artists, as well as local music lovers, and enjoys directing his efforts to community driven events where dancing pairs well, such as the “Tulsey Town Two Step”. He has been said to be one of Tulsa’s notable music ambassadors and aspires to further his reach.

Joleen Brown: Joleen Brown is a Tulsa-based singer-songwriter rooted in the rich musical traditions of east Oklahoma. Known for her warm vocals, thoughtful lyrics, and heartfelt storytelling, Joleen blends elements of folk, Americana, and red dirt into songs that feel deeply personal yet broadly relatable. Raised in a musical family and self-taught on guitar, she spent years writing in private before stepping into the Tulsa scene in 2023 and quickly became a standout voice in the region.

Her debut album, A Good Place to Hide Away (2025), was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Wes Sharon and features members of the Turnpike Troubadours, capturing the collaborative spirit of her Tulsa community and earning praise for its honesty and melodic strength. Her music has reached wider audiences through placements in Sterlin Harjo’s FX series The Lowdown, and she’s shared stages with respected artists while building a devoted following through intimate, story-forward performances.

Performing with a tight-knit band of Tulsa musicians, Joleen continues to write, record, and tour, bringing songs that resonate with roots, resilience, and heart to listeners across the region and beyond.

John Ferrell: John Ferrell is an Americana artist whose music draws from tradition, endurance, and lived experience. His songs feel grounded and unpolished in the best way – stories shaped by open roads, quiet reflection, and the weight of what truly matters.

He has amassed over 1,000,000 streams across platforms, building a steadily growing audience drawn to sincerity over spectacle. In 2025, his song “Simple Sweet” earned Best Song in Oklahoma on radio, affirming his place in the state’s musical landscape and highlighting the emotional pull of his songwriting.

His work has also crossed into television, with “Mountain Top” and “Canyon” featured in TV programs, expanding his reach through visual storytelling. In 2024, he overcame cancer—a defining chapter that now quietly informs his music with greater depth, resilience, and clarity. Rooted in Oklahoma and shaped by survival, hope, and humility, he continues to carve out a meaningful space in modern Americana—writing songs that feel simple, hard-won, and true.
