Live Music in Tulsa: Tunes @ Noon Spotlight Featuring Cody Brewer, Red Letters with Liz Zotta, and Upscale Smoke

Discover the artists featured in The Church Studio’s Tunes @ Noon concert series, Tulsa’s signature midday live music experience.

Tunes @ Noon stands alone in Tulsa’s music scene. More than a concert series, it’s an artist showcase, community builder, and one of Tulsa’s few opportunities to experience live music during the workday inside the legendary Church Studio. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from noon to 1 p.m., with occasional Featured Friday performances, audiences enjoy everything from blues and Americana to jazz, rock, folk, country, and singer-songwriters. No two shows are ever the same.

Your admission also includes a docent-led tour of The Church Studio, where you’ll explore the spaces that helped shape the Tulsa Sound and continue to inspire today’s artists. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere is welcoming, intimate, and uniquely Tulsa. Afterward, Studio Row is just outside the door, offering locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques worth exploring.

Here’s a look at three of the artists you might catch at Tunes @ Noon. Check the latest lineup on the Tunes @ Noon page and plan your visit.

Cody Brewer

Cody Brewer’s music starts in the river bottoms of Leonard, Oklahoma, but its roots run through generations of family.

His great-granddad taught him to play banjo in Beggs when he was about 10, while his father and grandfather gave him the building blocks of bluegrass and country. He later played alongside his father in church, learning the music through family before making it his profession.

He grew up inside that tradition, and keeping it alive still matters to him. Jam music, folk, jazz, and blues gave him new ways to carry it forward, with guitarist Chris Combs becoming an important teacher and mentor along the way.

Today, Brewer performs primarily under his own name, shaping each show to fit the moment, from a solo set to a full band. He previously fronted Grazzhopper and was a founding member of The Moai Broadcast, a staple of Tulsa’s music scene from 2009 to 2017 that helped launch the Easter Island Music Festival, a 10-year fixture on the local calendar. His range continues to lead him into new settings, including an upcoming appearance as a sideman with the Lance Roark Band, opening for Wyatt Flores.

Brewer married his longtime love, photographer and mixed-media artist Caty, on the tenth anniversary of their first date. He follows a song wherever it leads. A simple folk tune might bend toward George Jones, picking up a lonely honky-tonk ache along the way. His music has restless roots, grounded in tradition but always willing to wander.

Red Letters with Liz Zotta

Red Letters brings a jolt of rock-and-roll energy to Tunes @ Noon, with singer-songwriter Liz Zotta out front and clearly having a good time.

The band began during the pandemic with Liz’s original songs and a simple invitation. After fellow School of Rock colleague Cory Reynolds once told her, “If you ever need a guitarist, let me know,” Liz sent him a song that same day.

Cory began shaping those songs on guitar, and drummer Craig Stewart and bassist Tim Lovins soon joined in, all ready to make music again after the long pause of the pandemic. What began as casual monthly jams grew into something organic, joyful, and deeply connected.

Liz moved to Tulsa with her family in 2019, hoping Oklahoma would bring healing to their lives. It has. As a mother of two, she understands the real-life pull between creativity, responsibility, and persistence that so many working artists carry.

Behind the scenes, she is also producing a songwriter series at Studio 308, bringing together Tulsa women singer-songwriters for original music, shared stories, and the energy that comes from artists supporting one another.

When Red Letters is not rocking out together, Liz, Cory, Craig, and Tim serve on the worship team for Celebrate Recovery, a 12-step recovery program. Their high-energy sound comes with no filter and no pretense, just pure rock and roll from a sober band that means every note.

Upscale Smoke

Upscale Smoke brings first-rate musicianship to the stage, then dials the party all the way up. Bring on the funk.

Founder and saxophonist Thomas “Smoke” Owens brings more than 35 years of professional experience, deep Tulsa roots, and family ties to Oklahoma music figures Roy Milton and Hall Singer. Alongside him is his son, Uriah Owens, the band’s lead vocalist, pianist, music director, arranger, and creative force.

That depth runs throughout the band. Guitarist Don Horner has recorded and toured nationally, performing with Charlie Wilson, The Gap Band, Peabo Bryson, David Sanborn, and others. Bassist Leo Okeke brings major-label recording credits connected to New Kids on the Block and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Drummer Toby Surratt has played professionally since he was 17.

These are genuine friends who know how to play together. That experience gives Upscale Smoke the freedom to move through jazz, funk, soul, R&B, and dance classics without breaking stride. Their Thursday residency at Rubicon Restaurant became a weekly ritual, complete with the call, “When I say Upscale, you say Smoke.”  At Carney Fest 2026, their standout take on Leon Russell’s “This Masquerade” showed the elegance in their playing. The rest of the set demonstrated how quickly they can turn that polish into a full-blown celebration. Serious players. Serious fun.
